The Hofburg Congress Center in the Imperial Palace
Located in the heart of Vienna, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, originally a medieval fortified castle dating from the 13th century, has been the documented seat of government since 1279. The most powerful people in Austrian history including the rulers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Habsburg dynasty resided here. The Hofburg was extended by each emperor, eventually coming to resemble a ‘city within a city’. Today, the sprawling, asymmetric complex which extends over 240,000 square meters and consists of 18 wings, 19 courtyards and 2,600 rooms houses the office of the President of Austria, various residences, the Imperial Library, important museums, the Spanish Riding School (with the famous Lipizzaner horses) and the internationally renowned Hofburg Congress Center. This unique conference centre is equipped with state of the art technology, but the charm of the imperial residence has been preserved. Especially the glittering state rooms of the Imperial Palace, the former residence of the Habsburgs, have maintained their original character. Today the historical rooms of the Hofburg Congress Center are multifunctional, fitted with state of the art conference equipment. The Hofburg Gallery and Forum is the heart of the Congress Center and constitutes an interesting glass construction located in one of the historic inner courtyards. In an exceptional atmosphere, these modern and optimally equipped halls meet the highest technical demands offering a very special view.
